We are a firm of design and manufacturing engineers who are primarily concerned with the supply of pressure vessels for supporting rotary seals on a variety of pumping and mixing equipment. Our main field of operation being the petrochemical, agrochemical and oil refining industries.
During the comparatively short time we have been dealing with Acumen Seals, and Andy Sykes, we’ve been surprised at the natural enthusiasm they have for selling and for keeping the customer happy.

I contacted Acumen Seals on a mechanical sealing application regarding rotary lobe pumps for replacement seals.
On a separate occasion they worked with me on developing an alternative method of sealing some troublesome valves, i.e. P.T.F.E. encapsulated O rings, which have up to date lasted longer than the traditional method of sealing.
With regard to mechanical seals they have informed me of new designs on the market and also ways to refurbish existing mechanical seals, which will save money and cut down on new by seals.

We have incorporated dynamic mechanical seals into our liquid filter feed pumps since mid 1997. These were supplied directly or indirectly by companies where Mr. Andrew Sykes played a key role. Mr. Sykes created Acumen Seals which provides a comprehensive service in the specialist domain of mechanical seal supply.
This activity contributed significantly to our own company’s gaining the “Queen’s Award for Export Achievement” in 1998.
In order to establish a firm rapport with companies such as ourselves Mr. Sykes took the initiative to visit our premises. He then recommended stock call-off arrangements, advised on updated, cartridge seal systems and generally promoted the easing and expediting of the supply of mechanical seals for distribution to our customers world-wide.

With your personal involvement the machinery was back in service that same day. I am also reminded of your enthusiasm in solving a problem, whilst I was away in South Wales a few weekends back. During these periods when the majority of suppliers are unavailable your round the clock back up is priceless. In addition to these very important issues I am very impressed with the general quality of your seals. The fact that your are prepared to stock and hold for call off products that are crucial to my customers production enables us to have contingency cover for any emergencies.

- Packaging. Acumen package to our requirements in using different packaging for production items and items sent out as spares.
- Delivery. Call off deliveries are required and Acumen has proved to be exact in both delivery quantities and delivery times.

We have been manufacturing Viscotator scraped surface heat exchanger for 4 years and are competing with strong international competition.
One of the main factors to customer satisfaction and hence increased market share is the cost of ownership of the machine.
The Viscotator is supplied with a water quenched mechanical seal which not only are expensive, but also prone to damage and short life.
Through the service and attention of Acumen Seals, we are now able to offer mechanical seal replacements at 70% of their original cost with an expected life of 1 year, instead of the original 3 months.
Installation of the seal has also been improved.
The level of assistance received from Acumen Seals and willingness to help improve the Viscotator was far greater than that offered by the other seal suppliers. We are very happy to commend the service of Acumen Seals to other seal manufacturers. |
