FFKM is a perfluoroelastomer. It resists a wider range of chemicals and higher temperatures than most other rubbers.
It is the right choice when cheaper compounds cannot survive the whole process and cleaning duty.
When FFKM is worth it
- Mixed or aggressive chemicals that attack EPDM and FKM
- High temperatures combined with chemical exposure
- Duties where a failure costs far more than the ring
When it is not
- Water, steam or mild caustic duties that a suitable EPDM handles
- Oils and fuels that a suitable FKM handles
- Failures caused by extrusion, poor groove design or fitting damage, which a premium compound will not cure
What to tell us
The fluids and concentrations, peak temperature and time, pressure, cleaning cycles including steam, CIP or SIP, and whether the seal is static or dynamic. We will check whether FFKM is needed or whether a lower cost compound will do the job.
Questions engineers ask
Our sister site ffkm.co.uk answers the common FFKM questions in depth. In short, choose the lowest cost compound proven for the full duty, and check grade limits even within FFKM.

Frequently asked questions
- Is FFKM always the best choice?
- No. It is the right choice only when cheaper compounds cannot meet the full duty.
- Can OringOne make large FFKM rings?
- FFKM is in OringOne's listed materials for large and endless O rings. Sizes are confirmed on enquiry.
- Will FFKM fix a repeat failure?
- Not if the cause is mechanical, such as extrusion or fitting damage. We look at the cause first.
